Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 12, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Alternative Investing Club (“AIC,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, and protects personal information through the AIC Investor Portal (the “Portal”). The Portal supports two levels of participation: a registered account for browsing investment opportunities, and a qualified investor profile for participating in offerings. The information we collect differs substantially between the two, and this policy is organized accordingly.
1. Information We Collect
Registered accounts
When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and password, and — if you choose to provide them — your phone number, how you heard about us, and the investment categories that interest you. We also record which opportunities you express interest in.
Investor qualification
If you choose to qualify as an investor, we collect the information required to verify your identity and accredited investor status and to administer your investments, including:
- The basis on which you qualify as an accredited investor, and your certification of it;
- Identity documents (a government-issued photo ID and a proof of address) and a completed tax form (W-9 or W-8BEN), stored in a private, access-controlled document vault;
- For entities: legal name, jurisdiction, employer identification number, and the names and ownership percentages of beneficial owners;
- Banking metadata limited to your institution name, account type, and the last four digits of your account number. We do not store full bank account numbers or Social Security numbers in our database. Tax identification numbers appear only within the tax forms you upload to the vault;
- Your investment suitability responses (risk tolerance, horizon, experience, objectives);
- Your electronic signature on acknowledgments, recorded with your typed name, a timestamp, and the network address from which you signed.
Transaction records
When you invest, we maintain records of your commitments, capital calls, capital contributions, and distributions, as required to administer the fund and by applicable law.
Technical information
We use cookies strictly for authentication sessions and interface preferences (such as your chosen theme). We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. We maintain security audit logs of significant account activity — sign-ins, document access, and changes to investment records — which include network addresses.
2. Automated Document Processing
When you upload a government-issued ID, we use an artificial-intelligence service to read the document and extract your name, address, date of birth, and the document’s expiration date, and to flag image-quality problems. The image is transmitted to our AI processing providers (OpenRouter and Google) solely to perform this extraction; we submit it for no other purpose. The extraction is assistive only — a person reviews every qualification, and no decision about your account is made solely by automated means.
3. How We Use Information
- To operate the Portal and provide the services you request;
- To verify your identity and accredited investor status and to satisfy our obligations under securities, anti-money-laundering, and tax laws;
- To process commitments, capital calls, and distributions;
- To communicate with you about your account, offerings, and your investments;
- To secure the Portal, prevent fraud, and maintain required records.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
4. How We Share Information
Information is shared only with:
- Service providers that host and operate the Portal on our behalf (database, storage, and application hosting; email delivery; and the AI document-processing providers described above), each limited to the processing necessary to provide their service;
- Professional advisers and fund administration — our attorneys, accountants, auditors, and fund administrators, where needed to operate the fund;
- Regulators and legal process — where disclosure is required by law, regulation, subpoena, or to protect our legal rights;
- A successor in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.
5. Security
We protect personal information with encryption in transit and at rest, row-level access controls that restrict every database record to the people entitled to see it, two-factor authentication, time-limited access to documents in the vault, and audit logging of security-relevant activity. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affecting your information occurs, we will notify you as required by law.
6. Retention
Investor qualification materials, signed acknowledgments, and transaction records are retained for as long as you maintain an investment with us and thereafter for the period required by applicable securities and tax law. Registered-account information for users who never qualify is retained while the account remains active.
7. Your Choices and Rights
You can review and update your profile information in the Portal at any time. You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it — subject to the legal retention obligations described above, which take precedence for qualification and transaction records. To exercise these rights, contact us at the address below.
8. Other Matters
The Portal is intended for adults and is not directed to anyone under 18. We may update this policy from time to time; material changes will be posted here with a new effective date, and continued use of the Portal after a change constitutes acceptance.
